Meet Harvey the RV!

We've been talking about him for some time and now here he is!

This is Harvey the RV!  Note to all of you out there, call your credit card company if you'll be making purchases out of state. My card company was calling me immediately after declining my card when the RV company tried putting the charges through.  Oops.  Oh well....20 minutes later we were watching the instructional video (and wondering what the heck we got ourselves into!) and then Jake showed us around Harvey. We told Clare to pay special attention on how to empty the tanks as that his her job!  Amy also checked the roof for damage (and that's Jake in the corner who assures us we can drive this beast!).

Once we got our lesson, we were off.  Amy took the inaugural drive (I took video on her phone so she'll have to post that).
We headed to Walmart (because where else do us Redneck Vacationers go?!!?).  After a lifetime in the store we finally had everything we needed (including beer, wine and margaritas!).

And Ann O'brien, we remembered to get the franks and beans to put in the flashlight and bring down to the Grand Canyon.

Once we left Walmart we headed off to Desert Sun, the RV park we're staying at.

Clare found a safe spot to sit.

And Super Grover took a turn driving too.

Once we figured out where our (thankfully pull-through) spot was we had to figure out how to hook up the electric.  Now we watched the video and Jake showed us what to do but seeing is not doing.  Thankfully we have a very friendly RV neighbor (Bob Ian) who showed us that just plugging into the outlet isn't enough...you actually have to flip the switch to turn it on...hahaha).  So lesson learned.
We figured out the slide out too (turns out the engine must be on for it to work).

We took a wander around the park and its pretty nice with an indoor pool / jacuzzi, pool room, library, craft room and  card playing room.  And by the way, it's steaming hot here (it's 8:30 pm and its still 94 degrees out).

We then went back to Harvey, cracked open some drinks and toasted one up to Jimmy and Jack while we watched our first Arizona sunset.

And now we're (well Clare is )making our first RV dinner; spaghetti bolognese and Harvey hasn't blown up yet which is a very good sign.

And, of course, we're having more drinks   (With Super Grover)!

Next up: more drinks, unpack, drinks then sleep (perhaps with a swim in there somewhere).  Tomorrow we are off to Sedona!

  1. Woah..... McV here..... Katy forgot to mention my amazing leveling skills with Harvey. We were informed that Harvey needs to be leveled in order for certain things to run, most importantly the fridge. So you pull into a spot, bust out the leveler and make sure that not only is he level front to back but side to side. It was determined that Harveys front left wheel needed to be elevated. I drove him ever so delicately onto a lift and dang if I (we) didn't get it right on the first shot!!!!
